Dr. Darlene Buan-Basit graduated from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College (CMCC) in 2003, and offers a unique combination of chiropractic and Pilates.

Dr. Darlene Buan-Basit has enjoyed working as both a chiropractor and Pilates instructor in midtown Toronto for over 15 years.  She has just returned after spending a year in Hawaii where she organized a Pilates In Paradise Retreat, and spent endless days doing Pilates and yoga on a paddleboard. Refreshed and energized, Dr. Darlene Buan-Basit is ready to teach classes and workshops to challenge people, safely and effectively, so that they can become stronger, balanced and aligned!

Dr. Darlene is experienced with teaching exercise during pregnancies including high-risk pregnancies. She has worked with new moms, and with athletic moms and moms-to-be. Dr. Darlene has also worked with a wide range of people such as injured athletes, NHL players, children and active seniors. Since having a baby, Dr. Darlene has become a pediatric chiropractor specializing in breastfeeding dysfunction, particularly babies with tongue ties.

Certified through STOTT Pilates and Body Harmonics, Dr. Darlene teaches matwork, reformer, chair and cadillac. Dr. Darlene is also a certified yoga instructor and Garuda instructor. She combines various exercise disciplines and rehabilitation principles to get people stronger. Recently she is teaching Anatomy and Injury management to yoga teachers.

Dr. Darlene is certified in both Contemporary Medical Acupuncture from McMaster University and Traditional Chinese Medical Acupuncture from CMCC. Additional certifications include Active Release Technique, kinesotaping, Mulligan mobilization, orthotic fittings, compression stocking therapy. Recently she has completed Independent Medical Examiners and American Medical Association Guide for Impairment Ratings.

Dr. Darlene is a former Lululemon Athletica Ambassador and has taught pilates at different locations: Serendipity, Balance Fitness, The Yorkville Club, The Yoga Studio (now the Yoga Tree), Pilates for Life, Women’s Fitness and the Hospital for Sick Kids. Before falling in love with pilates and yoga, Dr. Darlene taught STEP, kickboxing and spinning at various fitness clubs.

At the Corporate level, Dr. Darlene administered the Pilates program at the Hospital for Sick Kids and was a volunteer for the Industrial Accident Prevention Association.

Professional affiliations now include: International Tongue Tie Professionals, International Board Certified Lactation Consultants.

And finally… Dr. Darlene also enjoys downhill skiing, cycling, swimming, snorkeling, yoga and learning to play a harp!
