Pilates is a form of exercise, developed by Joseph Pilates, which emphasizes the balanced development of the body through core strength, flexibility, and awareness in order to support efficient, graceful movement.

Every age group benefits from mindful movement, balance and strength. Dr. Darlene teaches patients as young as toddlers who are “walking funny” to 85 year olds who want to maintain balance and posture.

THERAPEUTIC PILATES VS “FITNESS” PILATES

  • Pilates for fitness is movement and exercise for maximum performance!

  • Therapeutic Pilates is movement for injuries or chronic pain/imbalances.

  • Most people will find Fitness Pilates excellent for conditioning the body, improving coordination, flexibility and muscle control. Active people and athletes will benefit from Fitness Pilates. Children, elderly and pregnant woman or new mothers can also benefit if they are not experiencing any back pain.

  • BUT if someone has a chronic injury or feel that they may get hurt with exercise Therapeutic Pilates is ideal, to give them a solid and safe grounding in the exercise movement and prepare them for Fitness Pilates and/or Personal Trainer/Gym work.
