Dr. Darlene Buan-Basit is an experienced chiropractor currently working and living in Grand Cayman. She maintains her practices in Toronto when she is in the city. She is now focusing on teaching other health care practitioners on techniques that have been effective in both the clinical and community setting. Her life experiences have fostered deep connections with patients. Embracing motherhood enhanced her understanding of family health complexities, enabling compassionate care while getting results for other families. Her own sports injuries have heightened her appreciation for personalized treatment and the rehabilitation process. Additionally, caring for aging loved ones has shaped her perspective on holistic care across all life stages. Dr. Buan-Basit is committed to supporting patients in achieving optimal health while recognizing life’s realities.

Dr. Darlene Buan-Basit is a licensed chiropractor and Pilates instructor based in Toronto, boasting over 18 years of experience. Throughout her career, she has provided care to a diverse clientele, including injured athletes, professional NHL players, infants, children, and active seniors.

Her personal experience with her own child's tongue tie led Dr. Buan-Basit to delve deeper into the complexities of this condition. This journey ignited a passion for understanding the underlying challenges and the significant need for additional support in such cases. To enhance her expertise, she undertook extensive research and enrolled in specialized courses focused on manual therapy treatment techniques tailored to infants, informed by clinical history and physical assessment.

Dr. Buan-Basit's practice now centers on assisting babies with tongue ties while also offering comprehensive support to their families. She is proficient in a range of techniques, including Contemporary Medical Acupuncture, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Active Release Technique, Activator Methods, Cranial Sacral Therapy, and various advanced massage techniques.

In addition to her chiropractic skills, she is certified in several movement therapies such as Pilates, yoga, Garuda, MELT, and Hypopressives Low Pressure Fitness. This holistic approach allows Dr. Buan-Basit to facilitate improved movement and overall wellness for her patients. Her commitment to education and development ensures that she provides the most effective and compassionate care possible.

Dr. Buan-Basit specializes in treating difficult cases related to breastfeeding and infant care, offering comprehensive manual therapy for babies before and after frenotomy procedures. Her expertise extends to supporting mothers with various breastfeeding challenges, ensuring both mother and child receive the necessary care and education.

With a strong foundation in research, clinical training, and hands-on experience, Dr. Buan-Basit has developed innovative courses and published materials that address common breastfeeding issues. She actively collaborates with a network of professionals, including International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs), dentists, midwives, doulas, and occupational therapists, to create a holistic support system for breastfeeding families.

Recently, Dr. Buan-Basit presented at Conferences, and other continuing education courses on the 4th Trimester, Breastfeeding Solutions - Manual Therapy Techniques, and Clinical Pilates. These initiatives reflects her commitment to advancing best practices and providing practical solutions to patients and families navigating these challenges.

In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Buan-Basit has severed on the Board of the International Consortium of Ankylofrenula Professions, where she advocates for global best practices in managing tongue ties. Her dedication to this cause underscores her passion for improving the quality of care for individuals impacted by oral restrictions, She has since presented in Conferences and continue to educate and advocate.

Before venturing into chiropractic care, Dr. Buan-Basit earned a Bachelor of Applied Science in Occupational Health and Safety, alongside a minor in Human Resource Management. It was her desire to work directly with injured individuals that led her to return to education and ultimately graduate from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in 2003.

Outside of her professional pursuits, Dr. Buan-Basit enjoys a range of activities, including gardening, skiing, cycling, swimming, free diving, and yoga. She is also exploring the art of playing the harp, showcasing her diverse interests beyond her clinical practice.
